I notice the nights are getting cooler, and the leaves are beginning to change color.

Autumn is quietly approaching.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, the days will shorten, and the rain will arrive. That's when I start searching for good books to enjoy during the dark afternoons.

This month, I'm seeking inspiration to create my own "reading nook".

What is a reading nook?

A reading nook is a dedicated, comfortable, and cozy space designed for relaxing and reading books in relative quiet. It can be any secluded spot, like a corner, an alcove, or under a staircase, transformed with a comfy chair, a lamp for lighting, and perhaps a small table for essentials. The goal is to create a personal sanctuary or haven where one can unwind, escape, and enjoy a good book away from the rest of the house's daily activities.

Here are some fun reading

nook ideas

Consider thinking creatively! Why not install a hammock? Locate a peaceful spot to set it up and relish the tranquility of gently swaying while you dive into your latest book.

A hanging chair provides a perfect spot to snuggle up and enjoy your favorite novel.

Closets are a well-kept secret!

This closet is the ideal reading nook, tucked away with walls that help muffle noise.

Seek out unused spaces!

The area beneath the stairs is ideal for a cozy reading nook.

Enhance your nook with artwork, quality lighting, and plush textiles for added comfort.

Incorporate greenery into your reading nook. Live plants create a tranquil and soothing atmosphere.

A comfortable chair and ottoman alongside a side table make an ideal reading nook setup.

Space for books and a spot for a lovely cup of tea.

The top floor is very quiet.

I adore this attic area with soft bean bags tucked beneath the eaves. It forms the ideal

reading nook.

This is my reading nook!

I chose a corner in the dining room that gets plenty of natural light and offers a soothing view. It's a simple spot, but perfect for those overcast afternoons this fall.

September is here!

The beginning of the fall season. I will dust off my boots, bring out my sweaters and enjoy my early afternoons listening to the rain, and immersing myself in a new read, snuggled in my reading nook.

How about you?

Do you have a quiet space to escape the daily stressors with a good book? Maybe there is a nook to discover in your home to call your own.

Happy September!
